Differentiation and assessment
Pupils needing extra support
If the pupils struggle to hold the fabric still or taut enough, support them by holding either side to get them started and then place paperweights around the edge of the fabric to support them to cut independently. Provide the Activity: Appliqué templates (support) sheets to practise from or use in their final design.
Pupils working at greater depth
Challenge pupils at this stage to see if there are any improvements they could make to the embellishments and appliqué they planned to represent them better and meet the design criteria. Begin marking their appliqué shapes ready for Lesson 4 (reference) using chalk. Support others in the class if all work is complete.
