Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support
Could focus on identifying and using words that are cognates (e.g. football, rugby, badminton) to say which sports they do; could use slide 3 of the Presentation: To play and to do as a model for the Activity: Sports battle.
Pupils working at greater depth
Could consider which additional sports take the verb jouer (e.g. hockey, volleyball, squash, netball, cricket, table tennis, golf) and which other sports take the verb faire (e.g. cycling, skiing, snowboarding, dancing, wrestling, athletics, horse riding); could extend the Activity: Sports battle by selecting more than one sport per row; could link phrases using et – and, e.g. Je joue au tennis et au badminton – I play tennis and badminton.
