Lesson 4: Electronic dance music

Listening to and comparing examples of electronic dance music from different eras, the children identify connections to minimalist music and then learn another interlocking melody from their performance piece.

Learning objective

  • To understand the connection between minimalist and electronic dance music

Pupils should be taught to:

  • Play and perform in solo and ensemble contexts, using their voices and playing musical instruments with increasing accuracy, fluency, control and expression

Differentiation

Pupils needing extra support: Could work from the Sheet music: Interlocking patterns (voices 1 and 2), and can also write the letter names over the top of the notes if necessary. They will find tuned percussion part 2 easier to sing/play. 

 

Pupils working at greater depth: Can play tuned percussion part 1, as this part requires the children to know when to stop playing.
