Lesson plan
Organise the children into small groups and challenge each child in the group to come up with a sentence to describe the relationship of a person to them using the following model:
La sœur de ma mère, c'est ma tante. - The sister of my mother is my aunt.
The other children in the group need to translate the sentence.
While the children are constructing and translating their sentences, circulate to prompt and assess and then ask for a sentence from each group to share with the class.
The following are examples of what the children might suggest:
La mère de ma mère, c'est ma grand-mère. - My mother's mother is my grandmother.
Le père de mamère, c'est mon grand-père. - My mother's father is my grandfather.
Le frère de mon père, c'est mon oncle. - My father's brother is my uncle.
La fille de mes parents, c'est ma sœur. - My parents' daughter is my sister.
