Lesson 4: Seasons and dates in French

The children begin by learning the seasons in French and then, using their recently learnt vocabulary for the months of the year and numbers one to 31, pupils carry out a class survey to find out the dates of their peers' birthdays and translate written dates from English to French.

Learning objective

  • To know how to ask what the date is and to write down the date

National curriculum links

Pupils should be taught to:

  • Engage in conversation, ask and answer questions
  • Develop accurate pronunciation and intonation so that others understand when they are reading aloud or using familiar words and phrases


KS2 Framework

  • Read aloud words they use on a regular basis, eg: numbers, days, weather (L 4.3)
  • Write simple words and phrases using models and some words from memory (L 4.4)
