Lesson plan

1. Recap and recall

Hand out the whiteboards and pens (one each). Display the Presentation: Quizmaster and ask the children to follow the instructions on the slide to recap learning from the previous session.

Possible questions the children might come up with include:

  • Can you name at least five services in the community the local council are responsible for? (Running libraries and leisure centres, maintaining roads, schools, rubbish collection and recycling.)

  • What is the role of a local councillor? (An elected representative who makes decisions on behalf of the community in their area.)

  • How is the local government chosen? (Through local elections.)
