Before starting this unit, you might want to check that the children can recall:

  • The four rules of shading (use the side of the pencil, shade in one direction, press evenly, leave no gaps).

  • Combining lines and mark making can show texture and tone in drawings.

  • Proportion affects the balance and realism of an artwork.

  • An effective composition is how things are arranged or organised in an artwork.
