Before starting this unit, check that the children can recall the following key facts from the unit Science, Year 3, Animals: Movement and nutrition:
Animals, including humans, need to eat food to survive.
The body uses energy and different people have different energy demands.
Seven nutrient groups are needed to make up a balanced diet: proteins, carbohydrates, fats, fibre, vitamins, minerals and water.
The nutrients are needed in different proportions to be healthy.
