1. Recap and recall

Ask the children to work in their table groups to explain to each other:

  1. What an infinitive is (the basic form of the verb, which in English is to [do something]).

  2. What the different categories are of regular French infinitives (er, ir, re).
  3. What the different endings are for -er verbs and how add these endings for the verb chanter - to sing.

While the children are working, circulate to assess how the children are doing and then take feedback from the class. You are looking for the answer that the er is dropped from the infinitive of chanter - to sing and replaced with the following endings, depending on the subject pronoun:

je chantenous chantonstu chantesvous chantezil chanteils chantentelle chanteelles chantent

Either ask the class or groups to conjugate the verb chanter out loud, or go round the class with the first child calling out je chante, the second child calling out tu chantes and so on.
