Lesson 1: French money, numbers and prices

1. Recap and recall

Ask the children to work in their table groups to recall the numbers in French from 1-20. Once they have had a chance to recall the numbers, invite each group to start counting in sets of five, so group 1 counts 1-5 and group 2 counts 6-10. When you get to 20, start again with 1-5.

When each group has had at least one go at counting aloud, try one of the following:

  • Go round the class and each individual in turn calls out the next number.

  • Call out random numbers in English and invite children to give the French number.

  • Ask the class to count 1-20 and then 20-1.
