Before starting this unit, you might want to check the children can recall:

  • What call and response is. (A musical pattern where one person or group plays or sings a phrase, the call, and another person or group answers with a different phrase, the response.)

  • What a motif is. (A short musical idea or pattern that is repeated and developed throughout a piece of music.)
