Lesson plan

1. Recap and recall

Divide the class in half and explain that you will show some slides of animals.

There are three points to be earned for each slide:

  • One point for the name of the animal. The children can use the direct or indirect object: le, la, l' or un, une.
  • ). The animals shown are: un/le lapin, un/le chat, un/l'oiseau, une/la girafe.
  • One point for saying whether the animal is a carnivore, a herbivore, or omnivore, using the structure [animal] est un [carnivore][herbivore][omnivore]; the children can use the direct or indirect object (le, la, l' or un, une).
  • One point for giving a sentence to say either what the animal eats or what a carnivore, herbivore, or omnivore eats.

For example:

un/le chat - a/the cat (1 point)

un/le chat est un carnivore - a/the cat is a carnivore (1 point)

le chat mange l'oiseau - the cat eats the bird (1 point)

un carnivore mange les animaux - a carnivore eats animals (1 point)

You could offer a bonus point for saying where the animal lives, using the structure, [animal] habite dans [habitat].
