Before starting this unit, you might want to check that the children can recall:

  • The terms BC and AD and that there is no 'Year 0'.

  • How people lived in Iron Age Britain (in settlements; land was farmed using iron tools; trade was conducted both within and outside Britain; tribes developed hill forts to defend themselves against enemies).

  • What historians mean by the word 'deduction' (conclusion reached after looking at sources).
