Lesson plan
Before starting this unit, check that the children can recall:
People are unique because of the differences between them.
That it is unfair to make assumptions about others based on how they look.
That the definition of prejudice is making unfair assumptions about someone based on certain information.
That the definition of discrimination is treating someone differently or unfairly because of certain characteristics, such as age, gender or religion.
Stereotypes can lead to the unfair treatment of different groups of people (discrimination).
That protected characteristics are certain characteristics (e.g. age, race, religion, sex) that are protected by law, so it is illegal to discriminate someone based on any protected characteristics.
What respectful behaviour looks like.
