Support and challenge

Adults can use the opportunity to:

  • Allow children to hold or manipulate physical objects related to the story (such as a crown for Rama or a lamp for Diwali) to help them connect with the story in a tactile way.
  • Use small-world characters to recap the story.
  • Challenge the children to compare Diwali to other special times they celebrate, e.g. ‘How is Diwali like your birthday?’ and ‘How is it different?’
  • Talk about the colours they saw in the story and which colours they chose to use on their lamp.
  • Challenge the children to talk about feelings associated with light.
