Exploring the concept of 'timbre' and adding different timbres to the gamelan-inspired piece ‘Blue sky’, before performing it

Learning objective

  • To explore how different timbres can be combined to create an effect in gamelan music

National curriculum

Pupils should be taught to:

  • Play and perform in solo and ensemble contexts, (using their voices and) playing musical instruments with increasing accuracy, fluency, control and expression
  • Improvise and compose music for a range of purposes using the interrelated dimensions of music
  • Listen with attention to detail and recall sounds with increasing aural memory
  • Use and understand staff and other musical notations

Pupils needing extra support: Could work with a more confident partner and if they are finding the tuned percussion parts difficult, could play the untuned percussion in the final performance. 

 

Pupils working at greater depth: Could an play the lead part in the final performance and rehearse this during the main activity.
