Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Could use the Resource: Day and night diagram (support) to help them draw their diagram; could take the role of the Sun when modelling day and night and the seasons.

Pupils working at greater depth

Could use the modelling equipment (torch and polystyrene ball with a cocktail stick through the middle) to demonstrate and explain why the North and South Pole experience six months of daylight and six months of nighttime rather than a 24-hour cycle of day and night (provide them with a tablet to record their model demonstration and explanation).
