Lesson plan
Before starting this unit, you may want to check that children can recall:
- Some French-speaking countries worldwide (see French, Year 3, French transport).
- How to describe the weather in French, including temperature, weather and compass points (see French, Year 4, French weather and the water cycle).
- How to compare nouns by placing plus/moins and que around the adjective of comparison (see French, Year 5, Space exploration - in French).
Optional – provide each child with a copy of the Knowledge catcher (see link: Assessment – French Y5: French-speaking world) and ask them to complete it to the best of their ability. Explain that at the end of the unit, they will revisit it, adding more information in a different colour.

Vocabulary
Belinda has been a French and Spanish teacher based in Bath for more than 15 years. She has delivered a range of courses for teachers and PGCE students and is particularly passionate about weaving language, culture and global learning across the curriculum.
