Lesson plan
In this lesson, you introduce the children to colour adjectives. You may want to remind the children at some point what an adjective is. It is not necessary to do so in this lesson, but this knowledge will be useful later in the unit. As you introduce each colour, focus on pronunciation. For guidance, listen to the Teacher video: C’est de quelle couleur ?
1. Seat the children in a circle.
2. Hold up a red ball or a red beanbag and introduce the colour red - rouge.
Ask the class to say rouge by gesturing that you are listening, or instructing by saying répétez - repeat, and rolling your finger.
Once the class has repeated the word, rouge several times, pass the beanbag to individual children, asking each pupil the question:
C’est de quelle couleur ? - What colour is it? Here we add the word de because we are describing an object we have already mentioned.
The child should answer, rouge - red.
Standing or sitting in the circle, the children pass the beanbag round the circle with each person saying the word, rouge when they receive the beanbag. This way, everyone can say the new colour word, rouge.
3. Repeat the above process introducing coloured balls or beanbags one at a time for each of the following colours:
bleu - blue
jaune - yellow
vert - green
