Before the lesson
- To create a safe online profile and tinker with 3D design software
Pupils should be taught to:
- Understand computer networks including the internet; how they can provide multiple services, such as the world-wide web, and the opportunities they offer for communication and collaboration
- Select, use and combine a variety of software (including internet services) on a range of digital devices to design and create a range of programs, systems and content that accomplish given goals, including collecting, analysing, evaluating and presenting data and information
- Use search technologies effectively, appreciate how results are selected and ranked, and be discerning in evaluating digital content
Pupils needing extra support: May need support in creating their profile, providing them with a username and write it down so that they don’t forget it. You could also get children to write down their passwords for you so that they are not forgotten. Give these children access to the TinkerCAD tutorial video, perhaps as a web link, so that they have the chance to watch and re-watch it as they follow the steps.
Pupils working at greater depth: Should be directed towards the ‘Learn’ tab at the top of TinkerCAD. Using these online lessons and tutorials, they can learn all the skills they need independently (this is part of the learning for the following lesson, so note which children reach this stage in this lesson).
