Support and challenge

Adults can use the opportunity to discuss and/or support with: 

  • Using vocabulary related to the seasons, as well as the terms spring, summer, autumn and winter.
  • Encouraging the children to think about how the changing seasons affect the outdoor environment. For example, in winter, there are no leaves left on the deciduous trees.
  • Observe and support the children as they explore.
  • Find appropriate opportunities to extend learning, introduce new ideas or model how to do something.

  • natural object names (e.g. acorn, leaf, twig, feather, etc.)

  • words related to the senses and the seasons (e.g. cold, frosty, hot, sunny, wet, etc.)
