Lesson plan
Enter the classroom as a French speaker and greet some of the children individually by:
- Shaking their hands and saying, bonjour ! (hello!).
- Waving, saying, salut ! (hi!).
Repeat several times, so the children know which action to respond with. Give lots of praise to those that speak up and have a go, even if they don't get it quite right.
Then say to the class, bonjour ! with a mimed handshake, and salut ! with a wave.
Do a rapid-fire mix of bonjour ! and salut ! with children showing the right gesture.
Ask a confident child to come up and be the teacher (le maître or le professeur (male teacher), la maîtresse or la professeure (female teacher - see Teacher knowledge).
