Lesson plan

1. Recap and recall

Before starting this unit, you might want to check that children can recall that:

  • Sewing is a method of joining fabric, and different stitches can be used when sewing.

  • Tying a knot after sewing the final stitch is important.

  • When two edges of the fabric have been joined together, it is called a seam.

  • It is important to leave space on the fabric for the seam.

  • A fastening holds two pieces of material together (e.g., zipper, toggle, button, press stud and velcro), and different fastenings are useful for different purposes.
