Differentiation and assessment

Pupils needing extra support:

Some pupils may need help getting started, including suggestions for what techniques to try out and how to adapt their collages. Support children by asking questions about their intentions as they work. Working with a partner may be tricky for some if they have conflicting ideas; if so, encourage one person to test out an idea in sketchbooks while the other works on the collage and vice versa.

Pupils working at greater depth:

Could try to push out of their comfort zones when choosing a technique and try something they haven’t done before. Encourage them to talk about their ideas as they work and evaluate whether a technique, e.g. sponging paint over the paper, looks as they expected.
