Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support
Could use the Activity: Weather comprehension: support with fewer cities to identify and a simplified version of the text; could use the Resource: Weather icons: support, which allows the children to cut and stick weather icons onto the map; could use the Resource: Knowledge organiser: Spanish – Weather in Spain to support with translating the vocabulary needed for deducing the text.
Pupils working at greater depth
Could label the comprehension map with the names of each weather type as well as drawing the symbols; could identify any new language, e.g. la isla, la costa, las montañas – the island, the coast and the mountains, and annotate the reading comprehension text with their translations; could use a Spanish-English bilingual dictionary to find out the names of other geographical features in Spanish, for example, river, sea, volcano.
