Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Could pair children strategically so that they work in mixed ability pairs; could consider any adaptations for children who may not enjoy the feeling of wet hands or wool; could wear gloves; could be in charge of pouring water, positioning wool or rolling the felt. 

Pupils working at greater depth

Should encourage them to problem-solve as they work and think about how they could recreate the map square in wool; could challenge them to try and make patterns or textures by combining wool colours, rolling pieces to create lines etc.
