Lesson 4: Looping fragments

After recapping what a loop is and what loops are known as in different genres of music, children use their bodies to create a looped rhythm.

Learning objective

  • To select a section of a tune and perform it as a loop

National curriculum

Pupils should be taught to:

  • Play and perform in solo and ensemble contexts, using their voices and playing musical instruments with increasing accuracy, fluency, control and expression 
  • Improvise and compose music for a range of purposes using the inter-related dimensions of music 
  • Listen with attention to detail and recall sounds with increasing aural memory 
  • Use and understand staff and other musical notations

Pupils needing extra support: Choose their fragment for them – the notes to ‘over the rainbow’ work well for this.

 

Pupils working at greater depth: Should choose a second fragment and then loop one section and then the next.
