Lesson 1: The singing river

Children begin to make links between the course of a river and music as they sing about a flowing river in rounds.

Pupils needing extra support: could sing first in the round, so the melody on the backing track supports them knowing when to sing.

 

Pupils working at greater depth: should be able to maintain the tempo of the song and stay in time when singing as a round; may naturally vary the dynamics of their singing to match the lyrics of the song (for example, the first verse of each pair works well sung softer than the second verse).
