Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support:
Should use the Activity: Creating a codex: support (one each) when summarising their deductions of how the cacao was used and why it was important to the Ancient Maya; could use the Knowledge organiser to support the use of vocabulary in the discussions and annotations during the Main event.
Pupils working at greater depth:
Should use the Activity: Maya vase database (one between two – see Teacher knowledge) to explore more than three sources and a device with internet access to read the explanations of the vases using the link: Maya Vase database by Justin Kerr; could thoughtfully discuss the similarities and differences of how cacao was used by the Ancient Maya and their contemporaries compared to modern communities today.
