Debugging code and algorithms
This Computing scheme of work video introduces pupils to debugging, the essential process of finding and fixing errors in code or algorithms. It supports pupils in developing problem-solving skills by identifying where code isn’t working as expected and learning how to correct it.
The video explores different causes of errors—such as missing steps, incorrect instructions or typos—and demonstrates how to approach debugging step by step. From fixing the wrong icon in a flashing hearts animation to correcting a pedometer that counts in fives instead of ones, the video models practical, clear strategies for checking and improving code.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 2 Computing Programming MakeCode unit. It helps teachers equip pupils with the skills to spot bugs, think like coding detectives, and gain confidence in testing and refining their own programs.
