As this is the first Structures unit in Key stage 1, there is no knowledge to recap with the children. In EYFS (Reception), the children may have learnt to: Use scissors to cut out. Use glue to stick. Use both scissors and glue safely.

Adaptive teaching
Pupils needing extra support
Could use items such as a table or chair to help them balance if they find it tricky; could use a doll or toy with bendable limbs to model the balance poses rather than recreate them themselves.
Pupils working at greater depth
Should be able to explain their reasoning clearly using the correct vocabulary; should relate the shapes of the balances or poses to structures they see around them (for example, a tall, thin pose is like a lamp and a wide, low pose is like a sofa).
