Pictographs existed even before language did and children use the ever prevalent pictogram of the 21st century, the emoji, to create sentences and convey meaning

Differentiation

Pupils needing extra support: Should be given a simple message to create with emoji faces if you have chosen to assign messages to pupils. They could also work with a reduced number of emoji faces.

 

Pupils working at greater depth: Should be assigned one of the tasks to generate their own messages (see the main event example).
