Introduction to HTML tags
This Computing scheme of work video introduces pupils to HTML tags—the building blocks that bring websites to life. It helps pupils understand how tags are used to organise, structure and display the content we see and use on the internet.
The video explores essential tags like <html>
, <head>
, <body>
and <title>
, which help structure a web page from top to bottom. Pupils learn how tags such as <h1>
to <h6>
create headings of different sizes, and how <p>
tags mark the beginning and end of a paragraph—just like start and stop signs for a computer.
They’re also introduced to tags that add images (<img>
), bullet point lists (<ul>
and <li>
), tables (<table>
), and forms (<form>
). These tags make websites more interactive and useful—helping us read, watch, search and click.
By the end of the video, pupils will see how HTML tags play a role in creating a colourful, interactive and well-organised webpage.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Year 4 Skills Showcase: HTML and Year 6 Exploring AI units. It gives pupils a clear and exciting introduction to HTML, showing how code transforms into webpages they use every day.
