Pupils should be taught to:

  • Select from and use a wider range of tools and equipment to perform practical tasks [for example, cutting, shaping, joining and finishing], accurately
  • Select from and use a wider range of materials and components, including construction materials, textiles and ingredients, according to their functional properties and aesthetic qualities

Differentiation

Pupils needing extra support: Could cut out one large piece of fabric and fold in half so they only have two edges to sew. Might need support considering the order of assembly and threading needles.

 

Pupils working at greater depth: Should use consistently small, neat stitches. Should consider what parts of their product will take more stress and ensure that the stitches in those areas are reinforced.
