Recap and recall

Before starting this unit, check that the children can recall: An algorithm is when instructions are put in an exact order. Decomposition means breaking a problem into manageable chunks. Coding is writing in a special language so the computer understands what to do. The programming blocks control the character in ScratchJr.

Adaptive teaching

Pupils needing extra support

Should explore one set of blocks and give verbal feedback (for example, I used the change colour block and it made x happen); could rewatch the Pupil video: Tinkering with Scratch for further support.

Pupils working at greater depth

Should use blocks from at least three different colour groups; should begin to combine blocks to create a short sequence (for example, movement and speech together).
