Lesson 4: Be an architect (Original scheme)

Children design a building, choosing whether to draw either a perspective view, plan view or a front elevation of their original house design

Learning objective

  • To design a building in an architectural style

National curriculum

Pupils should be taught to:

  • Develop their techniques, including their control and their use of materials, with creativity, experimentation and an increasing awareness of different kinds of art, craft and design
  • Create sketchbooks to record their observations and use them to review and revisit ideas
  • Learn about great artists, architects and designers in history

Differentiation

Pupils needing extra support: May need help drawing a basic building shape or thinking of ideas. They should use images from the website to influence their own design, but try not to copy exactly.

 

Pupils working at greater depth: Should produce high quality designs that also show the inside of the building, using annotated notes to explain key features.
