Lesson 5: Sewing a t-shirt

Using their tie-dyed t-shirt from Lesson 2, children sew a shape or fabric weave onto the front, inspired by their mood board

  • To sew designs onto a t-shirt to personalise it

Pupils should be taught to:

  • Develop their techniques, including their control and their use of materials, with creativity, experimentation and an increasing awareness of different kinds of art, craft and design

Differentiation

Pupils needing extra support: Less dextrous children may need help to thread the needle and some may need thimbles to avoid pricking their fingers.

 

Pupils working at greater depth: Should use smaller, neater stitches which line up.

Could investigate other stitches, e.g. back stitch or blanket stitch.

Should attempt to add woven fabric in their t-shirt.
