Lesson 4: Tone 1: 3D Pencil Drawings

After completing a line drawing of a piece of ribbon, children add tone to make it look three dimensional using different gradients of pencil in the style of Ed Ruscha

Learning Objectives

  • Knowing that ‘tone’ means the lightness or darkness of something

  • Experimenting with pencils to create different tones

  • Remembering that different drawing tools and different ways of holding them can give a variety of tones from light to dark

  • Using different tones to make a drawing look three dimensional
