Pupils should be taught to:
- Read carefully and show understanding of words, phrases and simple writing.
- Write some phrases from memory and adapt to create new sentences, understand basic grammar appropriate to language.

- Read short texts for information (L6.2).
- Construct a short text to give a description ( L6.4).
- Use knowledge of text conventions to build short text ( KAL).

Pupils needing extra support: In the reading activity, pupils can highlight the question in one colour, and highlight in the same colour, the part of the letter they think answers the question.
Pupils working at greater depth: In the writing activity, challenge pupils to use a dictionary to add descriptive vocabulary and to extend their written sentences by including conjunctions such as et – and, or mais – but and adjectives of size and colour.
