Y5/6 Lesson 1: My French house (Cycle B)

Practising listening and speaking skills through learning how to describe different types of house and the rooms in a house.

Learning objective

  • To describe houses in French

National curriculum

Pupils should be taught to:

  • Listen attentively to spoken language and show understanding by joining in and responding, engage in conversations, ask and answer questions, describe places in writing.

 

KS2 Framework:

  • Agree or disagree with statements made about a spoken passage (O 6.1).
  • Read and respond to a text (L 6.1).
  • Participate in simple conversations on familiar topics (0.6.4).
  • Write sentences using a model (L 6.4).

Differentiation

Pupils needing extra support: Can work in guided groups to label the house, and then practise short phrases using c’est une cuisine etc- it’s a kitchen, focusing on accurate pronunciation and recall.

Pupils working at greater depth: Challenge them to extend their sentences to include il y a – there is, and adjectives such as petit – small, and grand – big. To stretch them further, they can ask their partner a question, such as il y a un jardin? -is  there a garden?
