Y5/6 Lesson 4 (Cycle A): A French clothes catalogue

Having learned the phrases, 'J’aime...' and 'Je n’aime pas...' children express their opinions about a collection of outfits and then, with support from the accompanying resources, describe their own catalogue outfit creation using multiple adjectives, ensuring correct adjectival position and agreement.

Learning objective

  • To express an opinion (like/dislike)

Pupils needing extra support: can work in small groups, using only the words for size and colour from this unit, along with Les vêtements word mat (1).  The unit Knowledge Organiser will also be a helpful support resource.

Pupils working at greater depth: challenge them to  use some additional adjectives on slides 13-16 when describing their clothes catalogue, along with Les vêtements word mat (2).

Wrapping up

During the week

  • Raid the dressing up cupboard used for school plays and class assemblies and bring the outfits into the classroom for children to describe. You could bring in one a day – the more crazy and colourful the better! Encourage children to add details such as sparkly or spotted, checked or striped.
  • Use the Presentation: J’aime, je n’aime pas and ask the children to describe the clothes in each of the pictures.
