A rap about Scratch

This Computing scheme of work video introduces pupils to key computing concepts through a fun and engaging rap. The song supports children’s understanding of fundamental programming skills, and reinforces key vocabulary and ideas.

The song begins by explaining what Scratch is – a block-based programming language. It then explores loops, helping children understand how repeating code instructions using the repeat and forever blocks makes a program more efficient.

Next, the rap introduces decomposition, showing how breaking down a large problem into smaller, more manageable parts makes it easier to understand and solve. This is followed by an explanation of algorithms – step-by-step instructions that tell a computer exactly what to do.

Remixing is another key theme, encouraging children to reuse and adapt existing code to create something new. This promotes creativity while helping them build confidence in editing and developing their own projects. Throughout the video, children are encouraged to explore, experiment and have fun with coding. The song supports learning through repetition and movement.

The video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing Scratch resources.
