Saying and asking the months

This Spanish video supports teachers in delivering an engaging lesson where Year 3 and 4 children learn to identify, read and write the months of the year in Spanish. With a strong focus on pronunciation, the lesson helps the pupils recognise that most Spanish month names are cognates, very similar to their English equivalents, and builds their confidence in sounding out Spanish words phonetically. Teachers are supported in modelling pronunciation using syllable division and introducing simple intonation techniques that turn statements into questions, building essential early speaking and listening skills.

In this lesson, teachers are guided through practical strategies for teaching phonics and syllables in a fun and memorable way, using hand gestures and facial expressions to reinforce language patterns. Designed to lay the foundations for future lessons on dates and birthdays, the video helps the pupils develop accurate pronunciation. It encourages active participation through choral speaking, repetition and visual cues.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Spanish vocabulary videos, which support teachers in developing confidence and subject knowledge when helping children communicate with increasing fluency in another language.
