Interpreting Shabbat through time
This Religion and worldview video introduces teachers to the concept of mitzvot, which guides many Jewish people in how they live their lives. The lesson focuses on the Ten Commandments, believed by many to have been given to Moses by God, and explores how these form part of a wider group.
Teachers are guided in helping the children understand that Jewish practices vary, with some people following traditional interpretations and others adapting them to fit contemporary life. The video encourages respectful discussion around religious diversity, belief and practice within Judaism and helps teachers confidently lead this lesson, enabling the children to explore how commandments can guide daily life and how religious practice can change over time.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and Worldviews Year 5 and 6 videos, which support teachers in developing confidence and subject knowledge when exploring different beliefs, values and traditions in the classroom.
