Culture, interpretation and religious practice

This Religion and worldviews video supports teachers in delivering a unit that explores how and why worldviews differ, even within the same religion. Children investigate how Jewish and Muslim beliefs are expressed through practices like wearing head coverings and observing Shabbat. Through scripture, stories and artefacts, they explore how factors such as culture, tradition, migration and interpretation influence individual choices. Teachers are supported in understanding key concepts such as symbolism, diversity, and shared religious history through the example of Abraham, and how commandments or teachings may be interpreted differently by individuals or communities.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews scheme – the world. It helps teachers build confidence in guiding children to think critically and respectfully about personal and collective expressions of belief. Teachers are equipped to challenge stereotypes, address misconceptions, and support children in connecting personal experiences to wider concepts like representation, identity and belonging. The video highlights how classroom discussion, personal accounts, and adapted lessons can support sensitive and inclusive learning, helping children appreciate both difference and connection across worldviews.
