Computer-aided design basics
This Design and technology scheme of work video introduces teachers to using computer-aided design (CAD) software, equipping them with the knowledge to guide the children in creating simple vector graphics and understanding their role in digital design. It explains the principles of vector graphics—how they differ from pixel-based images, their flexibility in editing and real-world uses in logos and digital art. Teachers are introduced to Sketchpad, a web-based, user-friendly tool that allows the children to experiment with shapes, colours and layout while designing a point-of-sale badge. File types and their purposes are also explained to support digital literacy.
This video simplifies technical tools and concepts and builds teacher confidence to support the children in exploring computer-aided design in the lesson and unit below.
