Teaching safe peeling techniques
This Design and technology scheme of work video introduces teachers to the progression of peeling skills in primary cooking lessons, equipping them with the knowledge to guide the children through safe and effective techniques using age-appropriate tools. It covers early peeling by hand in Reception, introduces swivel peelers in Key Stage 1, and develops independent peeling of a variety of fruits and vegetables in Key Stage 2. Teachers learn how to model safe handling, promote independence and explore creative culinary uses such as making vegetable ribbons.
