Using loops in programming
This Computing video supports teachers in helping pupils understand how to use loops in programming. It introduces loops as instructions that repeat actions, either a set number of times or indefinitely. Teachers will learn how to explain why loops are useful in simplifying code and creating smoother, more natural actions. The video also shows how pupils can combine instructions to run simultaneously, such as moving and tilting a character at the same time using green flag triggers and forever loops. Key blocks such as repeat and forever are demonstrated, reinforcing how these can make code more efficient and easier to manage.
This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Computing scheme of work – videos. It prepares teachers to guide pupils through using loops effectively and to develop their computational thinking. By encouraging iteration, trial and improvement, teachers can help children build confidence in debugging and refining their code to create desired effects. The lesson supports creative problem solving and builds foundational programming skills through hands-on exploration.
