Exploring places of prayer

This Religion and worldviews video supports teachers delivering a unit that explores the big questions: How do people show what they think and believe? and What makes places special to believers? Children investigate where and how people from Muslim, Jewish, Sikh, Alevi, and Pagan worldviews (as well as non-religious perspectives) choose to pray or reflect. The unit explores the diversity of prayer practices and special places, helping children understand that even within one worldview, people may pray differently — alone or in groups, at home or in a place of worship.

This video is part of Kapow Primary’s Religion and worldviews resources – God. It supports teachers in highlighting the features and meanings behind places of worship such as mosques, synagogues, gurdwaras, djemevis, and natural spaces, while promoting respect and inclusion. Teachers are encouraged to use a wide range of images and examples to challenge misconceptions, support thoughtful classroom dialogue, and develop children’s understanding through disciplines like anthropology, theology, and philosophy. Visits to local places of worship and contributions from the community can also enrich the learning experience.
