The circulatory system explained

This Kapow pupil video is part of the Kapow Science scheme of work. It is designed for pupils and explores the structure and function of the human heart and the circulatory system. The video begins by introducing the heart as a strong, muscular organ that beats automatically, pumping over 100,000 times a day to keep us alive.

Pupils learn how the heart’s four chambers work together to move blood in one direction, thanks to special valves that create the familiar “lub-dub” heartbeat sound. The video explains how arteries and veins form part of the circulatory system, carrying blood to and from the heart. It introduces the double circulation process, how blood travels from the heart to the lungs to collect oxygen, and then back again to deliver it throughout the body, highlighting the vital role of oxygen and carbon dioxide exchange in keeping us healthy.

The video is designed to be shown to pupils as part of Science, key stage 2, Year 6, Animals, including humans: Circulation and health, Lesson 2: The heart and circulatory system
